Heat treatment for the AD1 was 45 minutes at yellow hot. This was as hot as my propane mini forge can go. I kept moving the blade in and out and worked the flame directly on the cutting edge to get the best yellow I could. This knife being made from CPM154, the recommended Austenitizing Temperature is 1050°C. This should be held for between 30 and 60 minutes.

After interrupted oil quench in cooking oil warmed to 50°C or so. I shut off the lights for this and pulled it out of the oil as soon as the blade stopped glowing. The rest of the cooling down was in the air.
Next to the tempering oven at 230°C (450°F) for two hours. Cooled to touch and then another two hours at 230°C.
The blade is now ready to be cleaned up!
